To: Artemis, NASA (letter1)

 Below is a letter penned last year in 2024 to Artemis. I am with the recall that more, regarding the vision pertaining to the expansion of manned missions, was promised in 2008. Efforts to a new letter very soon. Thank you.

Congratulations are in order for Artemis I that proceeded without a hiccup, which launches humanity’s second publicized manned missions program to another celestial body since the commencement of our endeavor into space despite general situations in these ambivalent times.  Applause for launch round the earth over now, with private conversations on that impetus potential of furthering our reaches into deeper space heard between friends and acquaintances in coffee shops and elsewhere.  In spite of this celebration, I recall when news reached me a few years ago that even with efforts persisting in the service of preserving through safeguarding the Artemis missions development, which are obviously with extraordinary success as Artemis I splashed down after a precious journey, offices of the administration were subject to one or two occasions which we could term disturbance or irritation from parties whose identities remain undeterminable from my end.  The present moment in history is like any other, wrought with risks and precarious conditions, yet when a dream is greater and grander than the petty miscellany, calling for the subscription by the pure material of human belief and principle, drawing from the momentum and inertia of decades of accrued effort variously collected, upon the verge we recognize that even mission impossibles become within reach.  We can know that the challenges reach resolution each by each, in the recollection of the central dream of our own fellows in the present and in the future, to dwell in space, that span reaching towards infinity and is indicated by little but points of light, those miraculous celestial bodies guiding our flight.  Yes, congratulations are in order, for the short period in which Artemis was conceived and developed, great strides have been made, and not carelessly nor without hurdles.  I can feel sympathy for those of us before in the middle late last century, who were poised before the television, holding their breath, wondering with worry and excitement whether or not the pilot astronauts should make it safely across the unimaginable vacuum, to land but also to come home.

It was revealed to me recently that to think the agenda, for NASA and its associates in individuals including the brave astronauts for the human being, is to dwell in space, whether by voyage to an esteemed destination, or by stable situation in which is forged rare founded works, has always been the central guidence.  It was true in the time when the Apollo astronauts were training themselves and designing the crafts for their historical missions, and it remains true today where particular objectives have multiplied to include general awareness of the state of the universe and apprehension of various to our home planet earth.  The generated probability field for future trajectories forwarding manned missions and engineered formulations, instruments and experiments, and other facilities, though shifting with each contribution of ingenuity and innovation, with each cultivated notion and novel invention, stays true to the guidence by this idea and its established past by each impossible milestone achieved, this guidence by the idea to strive for being in outer space.  The vision for being in outer space has the deliberated length in duration into perpetuity for the frontier is without end.  Several decades passed since Apollo, which were filled with minutes and hours very long by not a handful but a force of thought in power, yet amidst endless time, the duration of the guiding mission, they were but a brief lapse of a few moments.  With foresight it is apparent that the endeavor will contain many more moments able to become open and expanded for meditation and deliberation, privately or collectively, for the perfection of the strife is reached through efforts beyond descriptors of monetary budgets.  The collected efforts of recruitment of talent in pilots and in research and development, the painstaking research by a large body of scientists and engineers, the designs, the implementation in application and deployment, the efforts concentrated and focused by a fine crystalled lens of make not only of our own, this is preceding and current with a mission program that yields outcomes as specific and as hard as those of Artemis.

The truism emerges amongst large scale popular opinion that Artemis acts like a duplicated copy of Apollo, as though a complex mission program could be the product of a copy and paste function on a common computer.  Yet, the present duration is distinct from a past duration, albeit that knowledge could be imparted from experience, the inclusion of a virtually infinite number of variables involving a large table of faculties, this in additional to trials by circumstances of the sociopolitical landscapes of our own times, is merely the challenging backdrop to the real tasks of ascertainment of knowledge amidst fuzziness of information, actualizing intricate plans into space crafts over iterations in redevelopment, and most importantly, the coordination of human attention.  Over and past the tedious argument again on that a plan does not a craft make, and that past milestones guarantee no future success, knowledge of Artemis’ place in history might secure its place further upon remarks drawing interest to the mission program’s endeavor towards realizing the formalization of “being on the moon” as an act of man, belonging to the nature as well to the state of augmented nature as in which most of humanity’s common reality consists.  The framing of a mission impossible, rended out into the real by hundreds of thousands of minds and hands, as belonging to a natural mode of existence calls out to humanity: reach out to perceive and discover the new spaces for frontier, made possible by our very human efforts.  The human premise is one with the greatest of potential, a sine qua non, yet the human premise stays concealed to so many who find mostly entertainment: it is a necessity to the explication, and not merely by proposition of mission’s actualization, rather through demonstration and communication, an expression of our involvement with eternity and an address of the hard to fathom endlessness which is also presented as an opportunity.

The Dream includes all but is founded on the human premise, upon the optimism for a long long future by our constitution and our polities, and upon the belief that works which now seem to be just a detail or merely a subproject will find continuance.  Renewing the commitment for lunar missions is but a proverbial step within the series of acts that shall constitute the endeavor of the masterplan.  The masterplan I read of, only in synopsis, read like a genius discovery which cannot be explained from the learning found in old town or country masterplans on paper which I had encountered in architecture and urban planning, but had distilled from them the principles to make way for a real rendition.  The proposition by nature, in retrospect by the human proposition of a masterplan to assert over time into our corner of the universe, where we discover it by reverse engineering the plan’s form to its precursive conditions, does not appear bizarre or unusual, even when compared to what recovered from our tradition in survey and plan tradition however land tied.  The discovery and supposition is that there exists a nondescript expanse, continuous nature, of which not many words or categories could be presumed.  The expanse is not yet a place, but bear potential to have attributed to itself, despite its grandeur in scale, places in which artificial objects and human beings could be projected to stiuate.  The plan advances in its necessary premise the hypothesis that the faceless vacuum is a “where”, in which address, location, and place are sensible.  When queried as to what basis provides for that this vacuum could possess one or multiple “where”s, the masterplan answers, for the cislunar space was traversed by human beings, and despite that traversals were of a number and could not be said to have crossed all moments of this space, the principle that physics should at all moments of the universe hold true, added onto the inductive results from that the traversals found few anomalies, therefore, the assumption that this expanse is not bizarre but conforms to our knowledge and projection could be reasonable.  With informed understanding, which includes the valid basis that this expanse is without qualification when without experimental and principled knowledge, that the expanse could be occupied in accordance to orbital physics and planetary science, the action to discover what physical attributes of the expanse rend themselves open for investigation related to appropriateness of particular sites becomes the next step.  It can be inferred from the masterplan and historical records that such willful thought did transpire in the planner, for identifications of addresses where enclosures, instruments, and humans could be placed was undertaken, through painstaking effort and complex consensus by himself and others, with outcomes that gave a sense of coherence and unity.

The grandeur of the universe is ineffable, for terms like “virtually infinite” or “vast” in reality describes the distances that stretch even longer than their quantitative measures in solitary traversal, that is, the distance from earth to the moon, or earth to Mars, is phenomenally felt to be virtually infinite and vast, regardless of how much greater in scale the solar system or the span to the next star would meet description.  The Artemis mission will have found men and women who did traverse that empty gap or continuous dimensional fabric to achieve phenomenal knowledge of crossing the distance, an achievement not often said of the Apollo mission whose resultant is the measure by the soul’s metric the impassable, that deceptive, and this improbable time and space.  The presencing of the human in space is yet with the plan’s overt and realized structures, whose possible addresses within the “townsite” of the cislunar space could merely be intuited, by the astronaut’s own mathematical and planetary knowledge and his vision upon digits on a computer screen or a fleeting image out the small window.  Those addresses to be fashioned into places still require some thinking for elaboration, adaptation, and realization, but could already be observed dimly through the masterplan, as already having had happened in that future world the planner dwells in, a world we all hope to enter.  The present moment is the one in which all actions are emitted, this recognizing of a moment in time is like a moment in space throws us into the orbital harmony which comprises the neatly cartographic logic or the abstract basis to describe the perpetual ongoing motions of celestial bodies and all that could be ejected to be amongst their relations, this description for the situational condition of any site held within.  What architecture that deals with the technical expression and understanding of this condition with implications and consequences for future development including the ascription of place for the dynamic location of enclosures and instruments or other facility is promising for the apprehension of how to develop the cislunar site.  In my humble opinion, the table of celestial motions with the added objects of our own fashion in corresponding motion is like a special iteration of and in the probability field generated for the capture of specific possible trajectories in mission realization and eventual node based space infrastructure activation, ie. specific possibilities on how we track out the long range and sustained developments.

As of the date of writing on January 8, 2024, a tentative schedule eliciting much admiration from around the globe for the Artemis program has reached broadcast through popular publications.  Regretably, it did not reach broadcast as per details concerning whether and how the Artemis missions, which focus on the traversal by human beings to land on the moon and back return, are in correspondence and complementarity with the other programs involving built formulations on or about the moon, as The Gateway and The Landing; also unknown is how the administration currently views the Artemis project as being componential to a multidimensional plan, although admittedly, the notion has circulated that reaching the Moon is a precedent on which to build a voyage to Mars.  Setting course is a funny thing, this being true as early and as prolific as the centuries spent learning to sail the high seas, that hints and clues are subtle yet by the experienced captain and hands interpreted by hard knowledge earned that they are the harbingers of the good news if a crew is willing to defer to her majesty, Mother Nature.  Often forgotten in these modern times where habits and routines are trained to artificial trains and digital schedules that nature is through no mediation but by the soul and her senses: no mediary exists between the human being and that given by God.  Course setting, being very and meticulously informed, carries the burden of past commitment to a tabled future, which for the space program, is set informationally through the consciousness of many by the channels of information.  Thus, a commitment to a large population is perceived to have been, which never did bother sailors all as much for their voyage, being without intense surveillance and scrutiny by a public in minute manners, can defer and yield but through elevated cognition to what conditions could translate into the real time education of the one setting the course and the ones who affirm.  Yet, in contemplating that larger general picture which favorably is framed within the duration of not ten years but a hundred years, are not adjustments to course always at the advice by the conditions naturally found?  The investment of time and effort to have Artemis founded for establishment within the greater scheme in design to place human beings to a course with warrants for more subscriptions by a wider population, at the granting of an eloquent rationale that addresses our long range goals from the Dream, perhaps is worthy in its resolve and consummation for the future possibilities our expenditures shall continue to rest and motion.

Truth be told, I am worried, as a mother bear after its cubs, or a coach after his players, over the mission to the southern pole of the Moon, and so I inquire quietly, with the utmost humility, and only with the slightest hint of criticism, on whether safety risks had been fully considered for the Artemis III mission?  Popular media including NASA’s website and scientific journal articles reported that clues with findings exist that argue for water ice in frozen reservoirs in the permanently shadowed areas of the craters in the southern pole.  The landscape of the southern pole is unusual, which lended the location to be found as less suitable for flights landing by the highly advanced and ultimatey successful pilot-astronauts along with their colleague scientists of the Apollo era, who preferred the open lava plains in the equatorial regions whose density in distribution of craters was significantly less and whose lighting is uniform.  The hazard of the southern pole’s denser distribution of craters is further complicated by confusing patterns of permanent shadows which do not allow for pre-mission’s extensive analysis by the pilot-astronauts that support an informed landing.  The news did circulate that an automated landing system may offer alternative to human piloted landing, however was short on details about the reliability of such a system.  According to media, only one test involving landing on the lunar surface will be conducted, which intuitively seems inadequate when the system becomes the sole dependent variable for the survival of the crew at the moment of landing.  The task of finding location and landing amidst the strange landscape for an automated system would suffer the same defects as for a human piloted flight, for the premission data cannot allow for definite outcomes when photographic evidence yield less than required to be adequate for finding a landing trajectory probability table.  It could further be assumed that where the entire crew’s survival to continue to mission and to return to our home planet depends on every stage of the journal including the critical moment of landing on the surface, human piloting would be preferable to a significant value for the human expertise factor is determinable and self-invested, but were the premission data for landing proves inadequate for the pilot’s information and satisfaction, the appeal of having human beings handle the material samples in situ could not overwhelm the importance of the safety considerations and the success probability for the mission.

It is understood that the evidence for H2O on the moon was collected in recent years, thus the appeal and the excitement circulates with great energy.  An extraordinary possibility, water as an in situ resource, if able to be collected and processed for utilization, could yield great gains for development; however, the custom outer space operating technologies for collecting in large amounts for efficiency purposes and for processing into potable water or for application as fuel do not yet exist for deployment on this day.  The rush for personal handling of the yet determinable material in the dark of space could then be perceived to be premature, for in the reworking of schedule or the determination of a new targeted program, the former may find the latter employ better suited robotic mechanisms that could process or return samples while sustaining the risks of landing and sample investigation and collection in the environment of the cosmic dark.  The undefined nature of outer space betrays not the being there of that which is existent, that stands in magnificence and grandeur in its untouched state and harmonious order prior our coming upon its wide span and expanse with our smaller selves.  To bring ourselves forward onto the stage elucidated to us primarily in its vastness we imagine the rising of our finite beings to posture outwards by increments in presentation of our smaller orders within the great organization of celestial harmony.  The being of ourselves, inclusive of not just our small bodies and striving minds, but what artifice created for the appropriation of this, the presentation of our finite presence as a designed schema within the order of a greater design, we inquire into what is through the being within that which we engineer to fit the sweep of motion that appears to have no beginning and moving, moves towards no end.  Our existence in the context of the universe is by the human created logic which by its projection and emission into the real becomes a microcosmic universe within the scale and its metric of the greater universe.  The mode of human existence being described is a part of the human premise, and its special application is the space program whose argument departs from the many stories that vow their commitments to our home planet, what we see as spaceship earth, and over the decades, posits its being as like a series of endeavors for presence whose relative basis is not merely that of our own planet, and this presence as in the universe.

The onset of Artemis into the real, for the extraordinary endeavor of repeating the unusual and scaled achievement of the Apollo program, was presupposed on the argument that relates less to the question of some feat that is amazing, and more to the confirmation of expertise that can lead to the reinforcement of a capacity in this mode of being that posits human existence as future independent of the origin conditions by the wealthy and life prosperous planet earth.  It presupposes the validity that human existence might find its raison d’etre in the higher realities, as hinted upon by the inspiration of being inside a scale that reaches out towards no ends.  To brave the position of self within that which spans not on the scale of the human, but that our designs could brush into existence the human scale by forms that, gradating outwards towards the vastness of scale, describes that inclination natural to so many to reach outwards beyond that granted by our humble origins towards the firmament and the higher spheres, which by interpretation of science, is the setting or the stage which is the real infinite universe.  There is currently a design being proposed, in conjunctive association with The Landing project, which is the proposal of a architecturally sound enclosure which is installed on the lunar equatorial surface by reverse propulsion rockets, where a circular sandy beach forms the layout below and surrounding the habitat.  The sandy particles, collected from everywhere all over the planet, from every nation, represents the contribution and belief of peoples of the world.  Receding with distance in depth, it generates the gradation of the threshold about the habitat, which by its formal qualities in receding, begins to describe the human situation in the universe, where knowledge is of the immediate until elevation and advancement finds the concentric circles of disclosure expand, like the ripples of a pebble emitted into a still and calm pond.  This project is called “Particles of the Earth” and seek the celebratory participation of all peoples interested in finding our lot in the greater sphere of the solar system and beyond.  The greater picture of discovering the human as being and presencing in the true extents of the universe as the great valid environment is never lost through our endeavors characterized with the perfection of many minute details, into space.  The tendency by the situation in data abundance and rich development environments of the attention to dip in the beholding of the greater picture for it to submerge from moment to moment consciousness is nevertheless natural, such that to hold in a picture frame the true meaning of our space endeavors require an effort.

This is a relevant subject in explicating the human premise, and specifically, in the endeavor for the space program to discover the freedom of the mind to freely traverse for spiritual elevation that gives allowance for occasionally and intermittently viewing itself as a meaningful unity in human society.  To see itself at a glance, which is not the same as undermining all those meticulous and hard wrought details, the space program renews its being through the recognition of its true value to society, as a culmination of the vast plethora of cultural produce and civilizational aspirations, through those hardships and improbabilities which is history writ, and thus this dream belasting centuries and millenia, transcends the works that hailed or disregarded the dream of the universe, through that which we call immortal time, to come of age here, in the nascency or early childhood of the space program.  In humility we see that our focus onto the task of traversal for works in outer space finds prerequisite the maintenance of the course in focus, whose course has its tasks various with specific objectives.  The usefulness of philosophical thinking to hold itself in high regard belongs not purely to a specialized discipline in the humanities, and rather could be possess by all inside and about the space program who can achieve the purview that supervises not merely the present moment of the task, and rather the multiplicity of the existent efforts and the unrealized dreams of yet more areas, which together are the rendition of its unified moment whose wealth consists in the achievements of milestones various and further, the wide table of possibilities, which itself perhaps reach towards no ends as well.  The awareness of the future potential, for the immediate health of the program and the great possibilities it possesses are the bases for its power: development is then more than the minute achievements in series, and is rather belonging of civilizational growth whose scale is too awesome in the human mission of presencing forth into the nature of the universe.

The third remark concerns the concept of plan.  The logics and their contents that give emergence for the impression of the plan, which like all the particular programs strive for perfection, are founded within the dream and its general pictures, the specific missions and their rationales, the intermittent explications that call for interest, and in the many spectra of thoughts and notions that drive the meticulousness and rigor of each activity within.  The generative order of the plan functions precisely because it is carried in each individual’s gaze onto the spaces beyond, and all their actions and produce that behold the far reaches as the destination and goal.  The plan is generative through abstract inspiration from its nature begotten of its comprehensive collecting of the excellent and the awesome into itself, which through its presentation as a unity and a commons presences the dimension and the future of the program as a whole.  It is an order, and is ordering, and so is that which we call ratio that speaks forth through our intuiting that gathers the impressions and the details giving the sense of cohesion to the grand project.  The plan was nothing set in stone as an enshrined image, but yet it finds the cartographic logic in certain artifacts that help us recollect in what particulars the plan lies.  Through the direct representation of such artifacts, which are like compasses, and by enduring meditation on the elusive ranging dream, recollection by the individual of the collective effort which necessarily appears as a giant amalgamation of minute details can be achieved and in its achievement may be called the grasp by the higher faculty of that called plan.  That inspirational moment of revelation to have a glimpse upon the plan is like the exhiliration felt when gazing upon a star the impression is granted of the true grandeur of the distance, a clue to the magnificence of the universe.  That nature is of a true ineffable grandeur but that our finite ability nevertheless could imagine and eject a material logic to architect a situation of ourselves within, thereby finding our own microcosmos within the great cosmos is the miraculous nature of the human being in essence.  This is a clue to our nobility in spirit and our greatness for the novel in America.  Through the plan we can by grace momentarily to continuously see of the elevation through our granted faculty and our nurture existence in a greater scheme, far wider and bigger than imagined in a previous century - we owe it to ourselves to make and to imagine and to constitute the plan which should allow our launch of at least some of us to find a new reality beyond the esteemed civilizations of the earth.

The possibilities from the plan occupy an infinite tableau, of destinations, of means, of ideas, of theories, of engineering, of spectacle, of phenomenal revelation, of mathematics and arts, of architecture and vision.  The inventory of all which had been dreamed lies concealed or not yet written.  What determines could be wrought with hard learned imagination, towards the manifest realization of designs not yet made, could only startle the common mind.  The great adventure of voyage and settlement which bear commitment of the good and the care of the home planet has yet begun.  Though our ventures and designs are already many, the richness and wealth of the economy in space to come depend only on our imagination, and the permanence of the generations of ingenuity and the discipline of the space future rely entirely on the expression of the human premise making probable being in the universe.  We responsibly predict that trials will exist that test our endurance over hardships and obstacles, and that test our commitment to find the premise and foundation for the continuance of this destiny manifest, which by the furthest vision, will discover a new kind of civilization upon yet designed relations with the multitude of civil cultures across the world.  What rationales explicitly posited in languages or logics shall contain in their kernel the vast dream and the manifolded actions that promise to spill over the brim?  Today our solution is to maintain focus on the crystal quartz of the engineered complexes and the actuality of realizing specific objectives.  The quartz of engineered splendors and the actuality of actions form the jewel through which the white light of the grand future diffracts, and lead to the false assumption that such a future civilization is nothing but a technical society, which depress many for the falsely projected reality consisting of nothing but technical works that by its sophistication and profound engineering suppose great but narrow learning and therefore could communicate to only a few and inspire even less.  That all aspects to society are welcomed as long as they bear optimistically those positive values that engender the new and novel, for the great passage to untamed realms require the utmost in positive integrity and creative potential, is that which is alluded to when the true scale of the endeavor is revealed in the terminology of “frontier”.  The humanity is the moment which forges recognition that all which can create and make the reality conforming lightly to the plan while rending the environment whether virtual or physical within the space loosely called frontier is the object of the call to the space frontier.  

That human beings are called to and find posts to advent into the space to be determined, founded eons ago on the moon in the mysterious vacuum, at the Artemis program is today current bearing great suggestive power to humanity at large remains a conumdrum posing abstract and philosophical questions to many who are privileged to know of the venture.  What is the profound meaning of human beings traversing terrains in that domain we call outer space?  I would argue that outer space is a neverland and a paradise with a gate unmanned but the gate’s constitution is of such grandeur that most are humbled and perhaps shamed to turn back but upon the irresistable curiosity and interest remain in its vicinity, gazing upon it with the natural posturing of inquiry awaiting news to observe what great developments did ensue.  The human search for meaning rends susceptible each and every to motion oneself towards the perception of those endeavors which consist of the toil of many and of the strength of beholding a dream that should last beyond the span of a lifetime.  What fruits in particular should come of the space endeavor could fill volumes to stand for time immortal yet the task remains of not merely documenting but to partake in the discovery of the paradise.  The coalescence of one human individual’s dreams and efforts with the immortal program towards order for utopia brings the particular to the universal through qualification into the context that transcends each finite affair.  The world is yet made, the sage tells us: he said so with a touch of metaphor and mysticism, but even he is bewildered with an actual future world whose existence by bits and drops can be known to be already for that its existence par excellence does do so in the fulfillment by each action and product whose source is a human being currently and recently present.  That the human being who knows to add to the effort for utopia does cognize his or her place by the map called the plan is the cause for the sage’s surprise.  Upon the mission of Artemis, we can know that the idea of the being of human in all its facets and rigorous arts is being emitted to the space domain, and that this is right alongside with the bravery and courage that takes the physical feat of presenting one’s body upon a foreign terrain with few endearing possessions for morale support.  That so much more is being brought to the space from the origins of the lively planet, by this idea which is one of its propellants, the world through the emissaries of a few presences itself anew onto the greater stage that is the universe.

The humility experienced by the rest of us towards those whose courage is mighty for the reality of that voyage, seeming to mean a few days but in phenomenal experience an eternity by the minute, is natural, for we are poised as with the rest before the gate to the universe, burdened with bewilderment and questions which to the astronauts now in their embodiment of historical humanity appears peripheral.  Yet what tomorrow’s architecture in environment and amenities by production and establishment of today’s span, the past and next fifty years, such that astronauts may have for themselves designs that embrace them and safegaurd their bare lives and therefore they could afford to carry more challenges beyond the bodily risks is yet to be known.  For today, in this year, we can know that the affair of traversing with body into the space beyond earth’s surface will set forth one more step that realizes that impossibility previous supposed in all the centuries before.  For that it may be called a “milestone” is to give respects to the plan, which is larger than any one life time could contain, but it is an understatement for the addition to the enduring tableau of historically extraordinary human acts.  No misstep must occur in the preparation, and this I mentioned before with worry concerning whether risks have been minimized even should costs rise more than projected.  Easy it is to suggest an adjustment to the schedule, not minding that many series whose precision in eventful development could be affected.  However, no venture is realistic as no sailing is sound should hints and clues had already born premonition for a course, for that each venture is dear to us by the monetary and actual efforts invested, then the venture must be successful to realize the advancement of the plan should give us pause.  The troubling contemplation for that adjustments should shift public perception could find a relative frame of mind that calmly takes in the principle of permanence of the space dream, that despite its being natural for doubting that the note countering the courseplan of the main thrust could elicit more doubt is yet not paramount in its impact for the course set already by more than a century of effort.  What is awesome that draws wonder from generation to generation can bear even the unfavorable taunts of circumstance, therefore its formulations remain open to deliberation and reconsideration when prior the actual event, especially were the conditions discovered less than accurate in preserving the momentum of the mission.

It was mentioned ago that the terrains of the lunar southern pole is wierd.  The word “wierd” has come into the common slang to mean bizarre or deviating from the norm.  From the older meanings employed two or three centuries ago, we know “wierd” actually implies what is wicked and lively.  This word well describes the strange shadows that conceal so much about the geological resistance to human enquiry and eventual landing of craft.  What is “wierd” is not known to be intrinsically “good” or “evil”, however denotes that it is away from expections, and is easily drawn away from straight enquiry as though by an ambivalent force, that imbues it with power for it tempts us to know fore the adequate preparations.  It used to be understood that knowledge is an object whose value to the soul remains ambiguous and undefined, that is, until it is defined by the granting of spirit and by grace, through precisely action, that turns it to a good or an ill, ie. by willful interpretation.  It is the perpetuation of motion that wills knowledge to be applied to the good in outcome and in influence that gave us the discourse and practice of discipline.  Why is it not the case that we should apply due discipline to this expensive action of presenting our ambassadors’ bodily presence to the beautiful yet treacherous body of the celestial moon?  Is this effort to touch upon the soils in stellar space not of so much ambition carefully cultivated and tilled through the decades prior commencement of the program in the late period of the first decade of the millenium?  Should the southern lunar pole be a treasured object the applying of discipline for the perfection of the venture is within warrant and should be done.  The safekeeping of the invested lifes of that star citizenry called the astronaut class is absolutely crucial to the future of the human mission to place our being in the universe.  The alternative of starting up a serious robotic mission to investigate this overwhelming possibility of a critical compound as H2O on the moon, even at this late date, to be conjunctive to the manned missions as within the domain of Artemis shall be considered, with added investments into the technological possibility of in situ resource mining and processing.

Under the title of Artemis, whose name sake is taken after the goddess of the moon, more is possible upon the scrutiny by rescheduling and clever budgeting.  For the beauty of the moon, after the goddess, the future shall be fertile in that the dwelling on her surface is to be a prolonged act of finding a foothold in the celestial sphere: on the white regolith spanning a magnificent desert below the oceans of infinite starlight is the cosmic shore from which we will dip our toes and edge our way towards infinity.  The trajectory into space lives and breathes upon a plan dynamic, and humbled by the suggestion of the true scale of things, we timidly wonder and ponder to put markers on the celetial map that have correspondant real instruments that see on our behalf with perception machines and transmission channels so we on earth can imagine into reality our bodily presence through the span for now only the inner but also outer solar system.  Many views and scientific determinations made through the space probe instruments sailing through the solar system on precise calculations and implementations of trajectories, this program over the last fifty years and hopefully continuing into the future has given us a sense of certainty from photographic descriptions and scientific accounts that the solar system is really there, and then too the certainty that in this way we had known it does and will continue to be.  The traversals of instrumented crafts give us the readings by measure, the contents letting us apprehend the order in the what determinations were the outcomes, the order of the solar system.  Our instruments can see even beyond the solar system, to the stars in vicinity to this system, to the further stars of our situated Milky Way Galaxy, to those stars in galaxies far away, to those of galaxies beyond apprehensible distances, and even, to those stellar objects in the beginning of time.  For half a century, the greater world of stellar and galactic distances did softly come into focus, as not never beyond us, but rather as what of the future could one day achieve.  The spanning universe, at hand for imagination, avails itself as place located in a future towards which humanity through future history could voyage as a unified psychology that finds finally after all this time an object of focus at such distance that even the idea of impossible begins to find the soft light of illumination by possibility.

Once, to mean for centuries toiling away, the sky was a fabric with dotted lights, though imbued with meaning, the sky was undefinable but by poets’ lyrical guidence.  Today, this undefined quality then belonging to the place earth presumed home now assumes the definitions of spatiality and the probability of being place.  Presenting ourselves through our engineered logics in the crystal of perception instrument and craft of flight, we have had the solar system and then too a little of the universe represented to us, so that we shall know then of all time by the evidence collected that the universe is big and it is there, and for those of us with acute awareness of existence, it is here in which we traverse a little distance in orbital path each and every year.  When we can occasion, after so much work each day towards the dream, the opportunity to think awhile of what is realistic for the next little time, the next few decades or century, we may happily allot to ourselves that span of space called cislunar for our human friendly crafts and formulations so that our children may choose to dwell in that zone, architected, and dream a little of our bewildering finitude amidst the infinite.  Within the grand and vast a stage should be forwarded in which those situations by bodies become a realistic act, that action of existing inside endlessness.  It does not need to be so, for in actuality space is no desolation even if magnificent, for actuality we shall actualize the environs designed to place the delicate soul into a benign cosmos.  The change of attitude towards space is but slight, for the imagination of architecture began as early or late as the design of the interior of the Apollo crafts.  It is untrue that no affordances had been considered - the comparisons between Mir and International Space Station shows clear evidence that effort is ongoing to think of the external form and the interior space for habitation.  Yet, that the considerations could number more is the basis for the invitation of advanced architects and lucid architectural theorists to think from the long history of planning and the irrefutable principles of architecture, adapted, to address and indicate with great respect the peculiar conditions by that space, and first of all, in the cislunar span.

The guarantee of enclosure in the values of protection and preservation is a central core principle of architecture.  The architect dreams about raising that which embraces and nourishes, enriches and informs, but of what content - this is related to the guiding ideals of beauty and proportion, the basic tenets of sense and rationality.  There is no room for the brutal and the spartan in what is provided by the architecture, which is kind and caring, and knowing too.  The peculiar conditions of outer space changes not the reason of architecture, but demands that the quality of the mission to architecture be novel and focused upon those special perceptual details that ring as a constancy in that space.  Planning, I have mentioned, is relevant too, for who should like it to exist at a nondescript unqualified location which nobody cares for nor thinks about.  Expanse by scale is nothing new, but was the original condition.  The first ascription was intentional, that which points to the cislunar space.  The traversal at Apollo missions makes it obvious that the space is in existence, apparent in the coincidence by motion of bodies perceptible by eyes and instruments with that span which was irreversibly proven, to exist, to be traversible, and then by a long leap through the complex of our century old technologies, habitable.  The idea shines brightly to some, and these we must have for talent, so recruitment, and dimly to others who are busy with their works and lives in the worlds in this world.  The planet is full of energy, this energy supporting architecture that house our beings, since and even of ancient make.  This makes the act of departing from the planet slightly odd, but of a visionary value so great upon that the place of architecture could discover that the human premise, being technologically enabled, could to find ground to make worlds beyond this planet of energy.  To wit, along with the human premise will eventually move the architecture premise - then that even architects must catch up with the creative impulse launching itself away from this energied planet that supports all worlds we have made and known in common, then a new world or worlds that previously have no fact to be found be found.

The orders of architecture are great, beyond what words could tell and what the discipline should claim to know.  Yet, even architects should be bewildered at the notion that we could bring our thinking beyond this planet, for all of us with our common bodies and mediocre minds have let ourselves be bound to this energied and life giving planet, this miraculous unity of a celestial body that brings us all to our mortal being of such unimaginable potential by granted conditions we know to think.  All our works are here.  Even despite that dream we should one far day be more to partake of the ancient substance in erecting those orders greater than our mortal minds could comprehend, the stride for discovering through works the true human premise as one in the universe was always of a reach beyond our modest scope of being amidst the community of men, women, and children.  The endeavors to place with physics in the knowledge repertoire and architectonics by principles which then by speed of light in mind adapt to this newly found dimension which has natural borders in concrete none, we architects are so lucky.  What mathematics should reveal of the concealed nature our ventures will begin in survey that forgets not the reason to erect whether through subtle actions of ascriptions or through complex actions by those virtuosos whose might today are as of those of the cathedrale masterbuilders of the past centuries.  The fortune it be that true architects did not over time spoil themselves by revealing themselves only to luxury and comfort, though promised by some who appreciated the crafts, and instead stayed amidst the many for whom building reaches the satisfaction of also the architect.  For if an architect forgot himself or herself, and assumed the spoils for themselves, they did not know enough to be more than a lame dictator who utters directives but who did not feel the happiness of realizing a design except for those lesser materials gained, a poor outcome when compared to the happiness of a community which is accomplishment.

These times are with hurdles by circumstances foreseen by a few yet responded to by even fewer, and were such troubles arrive at the space program, the minding for the plan should not find relegation, but that the details in particular technologies and their employment, and more importantly, the placement and security of talent and associates would be of priority even above that of realizing actual achievements as according to the roadmap of particular mission programs.  It is understandable that by the enormity and importance of the space program, the focus is overtaken almost at all times with the placing to the fore of attention those accomplishments that hold the program strong.  It is unfortunate that in these times, the focus needs to expand beyond the mission centered efforts to include the futures of the program via the safeguarding of all aspects.  So fairly of relevance is the maintaining that the program does exist in a unity, one with the mass of knowledge, technology, products, and talent and the momentum that is upon a trajectory which is too unified, with the substance of history behind it, and the promise of the future desirable before it.  I am arguing that a roadmap and a general map for the protection of the space program be founded through communication with intelligence and military, with the cooperation formed with placed talent from the two, with such as the Space Command, but also with other entities and individuals whose practice is established and work experiences proven consummated.  The call I am issuing is related to the seriousness with which to understand the enterprise of outer space, as towards favorable future outcomes in predictive actions related to that of a defensive stance, to argue for the existence of actual protocols and guidence that should place, by the efforts of those in the program and by those contracted, the program inside of domains secured against any possible and likely intrusions.  This requires a very strong measure of the kind of discipline usually applied to the space mission programs themselves, or for special military missions which are not able to fail, for of the minding is that so much assets to the program that constitute its pure existence could come to risk; it requires the type of rigor to perfecting each particular detail and mission, and should not be scoffed at nor brushed away.  This matter is of arguably a greater concern to the persistence of the program in general than the amazing feats which we have come to rely on as a pattern of America, as today the general picture for conflict based intrusion cannot yet be determined to a satisfactory degree, and this in particularly for any specific entity, including the space program.

It is of our mental habits in a stable and peaceful society to see one or two isolated events and imagine that they are the rare offenses which do not add up to a pattern, that is, they are not representative of the general scenario, which therefore one could pretend not to have noted, or otherwise one would brush away.  The largeness of the program and its distributed nature considered, the task to safeguard it should not be immediately viewed as being discouraged by the difficulty of such efforts.  Like anything else that must succeed for failures are of consequences immeasurable, investigation ought to occur alongside in the same time frame as attempts to secure its existence, allowing the two to inform each other as per the actual challenges before the task.  It is always difficult to imagine that something of immense value to us and everybody we know could too face the risks of cancellation by those who cannot see the value of the object, yet that such is the tendency of the foreign who do not appreciate the delicate and wide ranging matters of discussion and discourse.  The matter at hand concerns the worth and importance, and irreplaceability, of all belonging to the space program at general, and what offensive insults and injuries were possible should the management of risks and proactive efforts of guardianship not taken, this prior the arrival of factors constituting those risks.  The questioning of the value of convening was raised, this related to the discovery of common goals and related risks amongst the table of interests with the many parties of stakeholders.  While this is a fair approach, the particularity of risks specific to distinct locations and programs rend such conventions general, and this is in counterposition to the contracting of professional high grade security consultants with the means of finding capacities, that should address each location and program as particular, with strategies and forces to be designed and implemented, to safeguard each and every segment we see as indispensable.  There are considerations to be made that would bring the variety of situations into a general picture, and though this too must be had for the purpose to assessing how each program schedule could be affected and conversely safeguarded, what is of priority to protect should be known in a secured manner by those who are in charge of actualizing the program that protects the space program in general.

The matter at hand, of course, by outside perspective remains fairly undefined, for the complexity of the task and the enormity of its implications find form by this and that, and here and there.  What we have is of the most excellence and we all know it is of the greatest measure termed demanding, but its protection is not outside the domain of possibility.  We must recall that such measures were achieved before, in the period of the Apollo accomplishments, and so we should satisfy those before looking upon us with the same measure of seriousness and the same effort deemed excellent.  As the most intelligent and most adaptive citizenry, how can we look aside of our granted and achieved positions by the lofty goals of humanity’s future in the universe?  No one outside America can claim that their nations were as achieved as ours in this, and hence the responsibility to safeguard the rare culminating track of making way into space.  The repository and vault of knowledge and technology, upheld by those of our citizenry through continuing work, are of values which no foreigner could appreciate to a meaningful extent.  The move to take effective actions in preparation against those scenarios called “unthinkable”, the term of which is erroneous since being with all avenues covered and insured with trust and strategies and menas is the only way to guarantee that continuance is without accident and mishap.  That this way into the future upon sure steps is not only possible as on the far horizon, but to that the way is built on definiteness and necessity - the embrace of that cause called necessity will find us that state of surety which for warrant that future generations must have this same view and wealth in knowledge and technology, and also the dream, should establish the irrejectable position of guard and guardianship.  Presenting a front is an additional benefit that should help orient the public at large in the projectible incidence of drastic event, which again is additional however assumes the leadership of the space program of American society in general, a responsibility which occasionally submerges and emerges at the will of the program as a unity, but such should be minded as an aspect of that duty to the country that supports the raising and upholding of the dream.  Bringing our own into the security which we rig up upon our own volition is nothing short of a strong but subtly given reminder that caring after ourselves and what is ours is preceding that undertaking of works even when the works are extraordinary.

Thus, the priorities for the space program are very many, but most can be included under a few titles.  Specific mission program success is rightly one of the top ones, but arguably so is a philosophical plan and a roadmaps constituted masterplan, the role of architecture, and the protection of the program.  From this disparate list, we can see that preserving the momentum and trajectory of the program is the utmost importance because it is the only program in the world that has proven itself to not only with the will to propel beyond all of human accomplishments but furthermore begin to grasp successfully the true and more unattainable dream of being the mere human being with noble aspirations for the great, being in the universe amidst the gods.  There is nothing if knowledge is lost in its tradition and inheritance, and the same for technology, and the seemingly sudden sprouting of talent amidst the populace.  These are the aspects which we should set as the subtitle to the general title of “protect the space program.”  The consideration forwarded some time ago that a new division be found such that a conscious effort is possible to be exerted on the domain that safekeeps what knowledge and understanding is not a puffy ambition.  The task requires a long term thinking that notes the precariousness in which we go through time, undertaking this mission and that mission, but without a general guiding consciousness for all much we have accomplished, and how much stands to be vulnerable to what attacks nobody can be sure.  This rending of an economy of current information through prominent directions in conversation that culminates in actions contributing to the general equation inclusive of outcomes bringing the space program to a defensive task is no walk in the park that is undertaken at leisure hours on that off chance.  The task requires focus, for even if nothing very drastic happen, the idea for a guidence system that monitors where we are and have connection to the protective shields in a space craft is altogether reasonable, leading to the inference that protective shields guided by active monitoring should bring a novel aspect that is at once to become entirely central to the promotion of the space program into the future.  The notion to protect the program is really not in essence founded in the preparation against drastic events, but rather constittutes the basis for an outlook that assumes the program as made not only by the sequence of activities producing extraodinary milestones, but rather, this very importantly, the preparation for a sustained elevation of faculty to have this ability of minding its own, or in other words, to cognize what it is and how it goes.

The paradox of imagining that the manners about the program is insufficient while all matters appear not only adequate but superb is of course one riddled with questions concerning why.  If all circumstances of life were realized within a closed system, the indeterminedness of the world will not pose anything of relevance to those within the games of life.  That fate is one of our own control despite that the reality manifests itself upon the infinitesimal variety, that fate is of our own even at the smallest measures is made upon the constancy of dedication to the comprehending of what conditions dot our paths.  So here I put forward a small request, to think of whether there will be opportunities to bring into our daily or weekly conversation the topic of the perpetuation of the dream.  It would be somewhat patronizing to point out where and how in minor suggestions, I think, but suffice to point to that challenge of being the only one.  The world is so large and infinitely varied, yet almost at no time do some fruits sprout.  These fruits come and pass in the seasons, transpiring as a mortal growth in its own finite time within the immensity of the time and universe.  Do we note that a fruit did arrive through profound appearance as a high and superior civilizational good that comes but once were not our fate in our own hands to see it sustain through what turbulence and voids possibly popping through?  It is in the treasury of the rare and miraculous, to say that which appear only now, and to say, that it is not by our finite efforts founded and rather through the coincidence of what lies before which is called grace, its protection and nourishing ought to be guaranteed.  So this is my hope, that meditation be spent for the revelatory thoughts that pass and transpire in a split second, to be withheld in our hearts and minds, to think sometimes of gathering the appearance of this truly never before discovered dream and know it as not only our own, but belongs to the inheritance of humanity.  We focus our work to viability expressed through the hard wrought missions, but can spare a little time to think we shall give our children our own as like the old world’s precious doctrines and hierlooms, but an inheritance to last for eons?  When a child, I was a fan of Asimov’s.  Some of his writings were with the profundity inexpressible that communicates to us his genius, telling that we are more and will be more tomorrow than yesterday were we.  In one piece, he imagines we are become light to travel the universe.  What was told but that essential truth of ourselves as so with the aspiration to be that which we are in truth, we let go of our mortal belongings and attachments and all that we have known to be what we were, to become that which is the truthful being, that we should elevate beyond all we have made to be of our appearance, and become beings to traverse the infinite spans of the universe in the form which, by the science fiction twist, offers itself as one that is.

The fiction does take us away for a moment: that what has been achieved is like the body, sometimes we call such a “corporation”, this could also be called the vehicle.  The Hindus think of the human body as a vehicle carrying the essential being through the mortal times.  The abstraction of the body is not vacuous but rather founded in the lit notion of that what vehicle to carry the essence is rising to form from the particulars which surround its existence.  It is not vulgar to think the general programming towards space is like a vehicle that carries its essence.  I tried to allude to some aspects in the appearance of the essential within the truth of presence in the universe - the principle is sound even were the attention drawn to the meticulously found.  I had hoped to refer the reader’s attention to the greater picture, and while it is the case that I express some worry concerning particulars, it is not to withdraw from the principle and rather from the spirit of knowing myself as one who could make a mild criticism.  To present my thoughts concerning the architecture of outer space will ask that I collect the pieces scattered about in the research circles and scholarly studies, so that in another time when I pen another letter, I can inform the reader not only of my enthusiasm, perhaps dotted with a concern or two, and rather of the practicals in theory and further concerning what can be found about the architecture in the literature already written.  The penning of this letter was to be a note of heart felt congratulations on the Artemis mission I, but so many more thoughts crossed my mind and fleetingly in these words I attempted an address by an outline.  The excitement which is felt is for the future, in how much more could be brought into focus from the horizon by the right apparatus, so we all shall look upon what more was done beyond engineering, across the microcosmic web remembering ideas for the common goal of our dream.  We want to place ourselves at the frontier, and this frontier to be drawn, that we are already here is the secret we coddle inside the concealment by the heart.  The logic and rationales that could emerge in the odd moments when we let that which we hold dear beyond the fleeting moment when it appears, in the solitude, so what we have shall be to the inheritance and pride of our children, I think probably it would be something great, like the times of the Renaissance or the epoch of the ancient Greeks, then the plan will be let known, slowly, surely, and romantically, to the people.
